August News 2011

Well what a year so far, we increased the recycling from the royal cornwall show by 35%. This was achieved by us introducing our new dry mixed recycling containers to the showground, excellent result.

In July we moved into our new administration centre where we are busy keeping all of our existing customers upto speed with regards to the new legislation in the waste hierarchy and applying new SIC codes to all our customer sites.

The enquiries we are receiving has become unprecedented, the desire for local businesses to use the services of a reliable local supplier is growing,we feel this is because our customers can contact us and talk to someone they know, and not some distant far away head office who doesn’t have a clue where you are, let alone what your requirements maybe, this is proven in our many new contract signs!
To say we are pleased about this would be an understatement, we are in fact over the moon and would like to express our heart felt gratitude to all of our existing customers and a warm welcome to all of our new customers who have chosen to use the local friendly services of H&A Waste Services Ltd.

The waste industry is always changing and we are conscious of the fact that we need to improve the way we handle our wastes, with this in mind we have now submitted our application to build our state of the art MATERIAL RECOVERY FACILITY this facility will give us the opportunity to become a zero to landfill waste management company, which in turn will make us the envy of all of our competitors.

We would like to congratulate two members of our staff, firstly Elise Daniell who has been selected to play for the England international bowling team against Ireland, also Abigail Holmes who has recently become the 'Restricted British National Ridden Champion' at the Arab National Championship Show which was held at the Three Counties Show Ground, which Iam informed now qualifies her for the up coming horse of the year show. Well done ladies what a talented bunch of people I work with.

Keep up the good work

January News

January has been an exceptionally busy month for us all. We have had quotation requests coming in thick and fast with two being major manufacturers based in Cornwall as they would prefer the exclusivity of working with a local business that can provide a complete waste solution (general waste, recycling and washroom services) with the ongoing support & dedication that they feel only a local business can supply.

We have also had a fantastic response to our mixed dry recycling scheme launched only at the beginning of the month from not only new customers but our valued existing customers.

Congratulations to one of our hard working service personnel – Julie, who on a cold wet blustery day this month was the only female in her local club’s Christmas Cup golf competition and defied all odds to win the coveted title!

November News

We are pleased to announce that we now offer a Dry Mixed Recycling service; you can purchase sacks for as little as £1.00 each for which you can fill with card, newspaper, magazines, drinks cans, clean food cans, plastic bottles (such as milk bottles), drinks bottles, detergent bottles and also clean plastic wrap.
By using this recycling service you are helping us to divert waste from landfill which helps the environment and of course the sacks are cheaper than trade waste sacks so you save money as well.
Our continued goal is to divert as much waste as possible away from landfill sites because they are environmentally unwelcome and they are an expensive way of disposal.
Your continued support to our recycling services is very much appreciated.

August News

As I am sure you are aware, we offer containers for recycling glass and also cardboard which of course helps us reduce waste to landfill.
However, as of October 2010 we plan to increase our recycling options by introducing different sized containers for the recycling of mixed recyclables i.e. plastic, glass, paper, card and cans all in one container.
We hope that lots of our existing customers will take up this option and by doing so will reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
Of course they will also save money because these recycling containers are cheaper as there are no Landfill Tax or Landfill Gate charges.

precious lives appeal

The seasonal work is well and truly building up now and we are also very busy on our all year round work.
We are pleased to inform you that a donation of £1,261.00 has just been presented by our Managing Director to The Precious Lives Appeal.
This was presented to Mr Bob McCready at Pirate FM. Bob kindly agreed to promote our recycling efforts for and at The Royal Cornwall Show which enabled us to achieve a 21% recycling ratio to waste removed.
For every tonne we recycled, a donation of £25.00 was made by H & A Waste Services Ltd plus H & A also donated £1,000.00 to the appeal as a thank you to Pirate FM for their assistance in the promotion of our recycling.
Thanks All-round.

Whoopee! We’ve managed to get all of the new containers delivered for The Royal Cornwall Show, Richard, Abbi and Caroline have all been busy not only with their normal day to day duties but also arranging and scheduling for the oncoming Royal Cornwall Show.

This year, to encourage more people to participate in our recycling schemes, H & A have decided to donate £25.00 per tonne to the Precious Lives Appeal.
With the help of Bob McCready and his colleagues at Pirate FM, we will be promoting our recycling efforts and would hope to raise well over £1000.

Please listen to Pirate FM at 10am 1st June to hear more details.

March News

End of March already, where does the time go?!
Thank you to all of our existing customers who came and said hello at Expo South West, West Point and Cornwall Show Ground, Wadebridge.
Caroline and Shirley said it was lovely to see so many of our customers, and of course to receive so many enquiries from potential new customers.
Our sales team are now busy converting these enquiries into new customers and we welcome you.
Our Hygiene division is not only busy delivering and setting up all of the oncoming seasonal work but also accommodating the new requirements for the expansion at Bristol Airport.
Our Trade Waste division is busy servicing existing "all year round" customers and also cleaning and setting up seasonal holiday parks etc.
Our Commercial workshops are also busy because not only are they doing their normal routine maintenance and repairs, but also most of our vehicle MOTs are carried out in Jan, Feb and March because of the downturn of our seasonal work.
Our Clinical Waste division is busy all year round because this type of waste does not get affected by seasonal downturn.
Right, now seeing as everybody is so busy, I’m off for a round of golf!

February News

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well with your New Year’s resolutions. I said that I would not drink or smoke anymore! Then again, I also said that I would not drink or smoke any less either!

I’ve not been able to visit the waste gasification plant as yet, one or two teething problems we think. Still hope to have some news soon.

Just had confirmation that we shall be supplying all the waste, recycling and hygiene services for the Royal Cornwall Show in June 2010 which will now be our third year in succession! Yippee!

Caroline Turner’s promotion to General Manager of our hygiene division is going really well. She is proving to be efficient and really enthusiastic at growing the business in her new role, so we wish her continuing success.

January News

Well what can I say – what a start to the year!
Snow, snow, more snow and ice but I am proud to say that all of my staff worked especially hard to keep things running as smoothly as possible.

We have noticed that people are starting to think about the summer (seems such a long way away) and calls to our sales department have been busy.

Our recycling is more popular than ever which I think is due to the fact that it can be mixed which makes life so much easier for staff etc and obviously takes less room.

We have now started glass/cans/plastic recycling collections in Fowey, Looe and Polperro, so please get in touch if you would like a quote.

Bye for now

December News

It’s been increasingly more expensive to dispose of our wastes what with a 20% increase in the Governments landfill tax and also an increase in the gate fees we shall be paying close to £90.00 per tonne in 2010 – one of the highest in the country!
With this in mind we shall be visiting a waste gasification plant in Scotland in January 2010 to explore the avenues of converting our wastes into energy and diverting our wastes from landfill sites – so WATCH THIS SPACE!!!!

December has also been a month of change with H & A Hygiene’s manager Maralynn Vaughan making the decision to retire.
We wish her well in all the things she has wanted to do but hasn’t had the time and know that her free bus pass will be well used!
Taking over the general manager’s role will be Caroline Turner and we wish her every success in the future.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Sponsored Wheelie Bin pull for the Precious Lives Appeal

What a way to spend your weekend off?
Normally most people might wash their cars, do a bit of shopping, go to a rugby game or take their dog for a walk, but myself and fourteen of my colleague’s friends and family did something a little bit different.
We strapped an 1100ltr wheelie bin to our backs and walked from Redruth to St Austell to raise much needed funds for the Precious Lives Appeal.
It all started at Pirate FM at 8am on Saturday 10th October and finished at Porthpean (the site for the new hospice) at 4pm on Sunday 11th October.
Some people were pulling the bins and some people were collecting money in buckets, even stopping the traffic so that no one got away without donating! Let me say that there were some very sore feet at the end of it but everyone kept in good spirit and made it all worthwhile.
We are delighted to say we will soon be presenting a cheque for approximately £3,500.00 once all the sponsorship money has been collected in.

Myself and Mr Alway would like to say a big thank you to all of our sponsors and to everyone else who has made a donation and also to all of my colleagues family and friends who have given up their time to make all of this possible.

10th - 11th October Sponsored Wheelie Bin pull for the Precious Lives Appeal

Hi Everyone,
Just to warn everyone to stay off of the roads between Redruth & St Austell the weekend of 10th -11th October 09 as H & A are doing a sponsored wheelie bin pull!! Only joking, we would actually love for you all to be out on the roads to support us. The H & A wheelie bin pull is in aid of the Precious Lives Appeal which is a very worthy cause. 100% of the money raised will go towards the much needed new hospice which is planned to be built in Porthpean sometime in 2010. If you would like to donate either pop in and see us or sponsor one of our drivers, loaders, office staff and managers! Any amount will be greatly appreciated.

August - update
Recycling Services reduce Landfill

Although the weather has been very bad the summer season is in full swing. H & A have been extremely busy with one day shows and Cornwall has been bustling with people. It’s amazing the amount of waste that tourists create but we are not complaining! We have found this year that more and more of our customers are taking advantage of our recycling services and have therefore greatly reduced the amount going to land fill as well as helping to massively cut costs.

A big WELL DONE to Carol from our Hygiene Division, always running around she has just completed a half marathon!

July News
Royal Cornwall and Stithians Show

Another successful Royal Cornwall Show with almost 10 tonnes of cardboard, paper, plastic bottles and cans being recycled from the 60 tonnes of waste removed. This is a dramatic increase from last year.
We are delighted to announce our staff competing at the show were very successful, well done to you all.

Stithians Show started bright and sunny and then went a bit damp to say the least! This didn’t dampen people spirits though and by the way, did you see our picture in the West Briton..?
Staff also competed very successfully here, again supporting (as we do) the local shows.

H & A Website goes "live"
16/06/2009

Here at H & A, we are proud to announce the launch of our new website, which has been designed to help our customers optimise their waste management.

Over the last 2 months, we have been working in collaboration with a local design company B Graphic to create an effective website that allows easy navigation, clear and concise information about all our services and products, with a simple message... we are caring for your environment, today.

Race for Life
06/06/2009

Congratulations must go to Sally from our hygiene division for completing the "Race for Life". We knew she could do it - after all she gets lots of exercise servicing our sites!

Going "crazy" for Royal Cornwall
29/05/2009

Welcome to summer or as we at H & A call it the "crazy season". It’s where all of the holiday parks fill up and our waste collection levels go "crazy"

We are also busy supplying all of the waste, hygiene & recycling bins for the "Royal Cornwall Show". It’s only a three day show but we collect approx 60 tonnes of waste & recyclables for transport and disposal.

(Remember: If you would like to talk to someone about recycling containers, simply give us a call on 01209 219993).

Our transport manager & dedicated staff work hard with the staff at Royal Cornwall to ensure the site is kept as clean and tidy as possible at all times and we very much look forward to another successful, sunny show.
Good luck to our staff that will be competing in various events.
