Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some questions we are frequently asked:

What is "Duty of Care" and what are my obligations to dispose of waste as an employer?
Please refer to DEFRA’s informative website which is updated regularly.
http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/waste/controls/duty.htm
Is there a contract & if so how long is it?
Yes, all waste companies will issue you with a waste transfer note and agreement in one for the first year. Each year after you will be issued with a current waste transfer note. Agreements can be 12, 24, 36, 48, 60 months with the best deals going to those who wish to take the longer terms. These are rolling agreements so please check your original contract for terms and conditions. Your original agreement will be valid even if you started it 10 years ago.
What can I put in my trade waste bins?
You can put all waste that can be compacted into your bin once it has been pre treated. No oils, paints, nappies or hygiene waste. Nothing that could be deemed as hazardous or confidential. If in doubt please call our office.
What happens once the glass is collected?
After emptying the bottle banks, the glass is then held in storage bays. The glass is transported to the bottle makers in Yorkshire where it is sorted into individual colours.
Do I have to recycle?
Yes. New legislation states that all companies waste must be pre treated i.e. something recycled. H & A have a range of services we can offer to help you comply with this.
How can I pay?
Our preferred method of payment is by direct debit, but you can pay by cash (at office only) cheque & BACS.
Why should we use H & A Airfresh units when we can buy the same at the local supermarket?
Quite simply they are not the same. Supermarket air fresh units are specifically designed for use at home. They are not robust enough nor able to dispense as much fragrance across a much larger space as our industrial units. H & A standard Airfresh units are effective in room sizes up to 6000ft'3/200m'3.
Why should I buy soap dispensers from H & A?
Cheap soap dispensers are not designed for heavy commercial use. They are easily vandalised and not lockable. Most will be liquid fill which harbours bacteria. Whilst we are able to offer robust liquid fill dispensers, our preferred dispensers are foam. These offer the most cost effective way (dispensing a much smaller amount of soap) whilst being in a sealed cartridge in the dispenser to prevent bacteria.
